About Program

The following  interventions are designed to complement the program's basic classroom sessions:

Pharmacalogical Treatments:   Information pertaining to the use of nicotine gum, nicotine patches and inhalers and Zyban will be made available. Participants who are enrolled in the UM health care plan will receive these prescriptions FREE-of-charge.

Group Support:   By interacting with other participants facing the same obstacles in quitting smoking, you will learn effective methods to resist the urge to smoke, as well as share encouragement and support.

Acupuncture:   Research has demonstrated the effectiveness of acupuncture treatments in curbing the symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.

Hypnosis:   Hypnotherapy used the power of suggestion to adi in smoking cessation by planting subconscious thoughts in a person's mind to deter smoking.

Free Quit Kits:   Quit kits are filled with healthful alternative to cigarettes, such as pocet-sized stress manuals, stress balls, relaxation tapes, and a variety of tasty substitutes.

Cardiovascular Wellness Smoking Track:   This 2-week supervised exercise program emphasizes general health benefits, while reducing the risk factors for cardiovascular disease. Studies show that regular exercise can play a role in supporting smoking cessation. The CV Wellness Program is provided at an additional cost. Smokers enrolled in the UM health care plan will receive a 75-percent reimbursement upon program completion.

Follow-up Support Groups:   These therapeutic sessions will help you keep trac of your progress and procide an outlet ifyoulose your motivation to quit or if the urge to smoke returns.

Research indicates that a combination of the above methods is the most effective approach to becoming and remaining smoke-free.
